Winner of four awards at 1983 Berlin Film Festival, despite being banned in Turkey for five years, this film, which is adapted from Ferit Edgü’s novel O, tells the story of a teacher (Genco Erkal) banished to the east, and his relationship with the reality of a harsh environment and the local community. According to Onat Kutlar, who co-wrote the script with Edgü, Hakkâri’de Bir Mevsim [A Season in Hakkâri] is the film that offers a new understanding of eastern Turkey in cinema; without relying on folkloric or an epic views.
