TINY: A Story About Living Small (2013)
Director: Merete Mueller and Christopher Smith
62 minutes
English; Turkish subtitles

As director Christopher Smith approaches his 30th birthday he impulsively buys a 5-acre plot of land in hopes of fulfilling a lifelong dream of building a home in the mountains of Colorado. Despite having no construction experience, Smith and his partner Merete Mueller attempt to build a “tiny house” from scratch, following the footsteps of other families who have downsized their lives into homes smaller than the average parking space. Through learning unexpected lessons about the meaning of “home,” the importance of place, and the personal impact of seeing a project through, the couple face much larger realities than they expected.

A story set in search of home, this documentary film explores these properties stripped to their essentials and the design innovations that make them home while uncovering their owners’ stories.
