Something & Son will talk about their socially driven practice and creative process. Their artworks often create and curate a “community” or platform, which along with a desire for their work to be self funding, means the process becomes as important as the final work. They will focus on the works People Wood (2012) a sculpture made up of three hundred mass customised 3D printed sculptures; Barking Bathhouse (2012) a low cost and surreal health and beauty spa; and FARM:shop (2010) an urban agricultural experiment which introduced farming into the city.

A London based practice founded by Andrew Merritt and Paul Smyth, Something & Son is currently on a research trip, hosted by Collectorspace, to explore agricultural forms in the city of İstanbul. Their desire to participate in specialist forms of collaboration has led them to work alongside swift experts, mushroom pickers, scrapyard merchants, farmers, scientists, manicurists and sociologists. They have worked with various cultural institutes including Tate Modern, London; KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin; Gwangju Biennale, South Korea.

The talk will be held in English.
