Sixty Six (2006)
Director: Paul Weiland
93 minutes
English; Turkish subtitles

This dramatic comedy tells the story of a lonely awkward boy, Bernie Rubens, who makes plans for a lavish Bar Mitzvah as a way to be noticed by his family. Only he schedules the party on the same day that England is to take part in the 1966 World Cup final game - meaning that Bernie is in danger of being overlooked again on his big day. Based on the real life story of director Paul Weiland, the film captures the malaise and uncertainty of 1960s England.

England beat West Germany 4–2 in the final game of the 1966 FIFA World Cup, which was played at the Wembley Stadium. Broadcast in black and white for the last time, the tournament achieved record attendance unsurpassed until the 1994 World Cup in the United States.

Part of the Thursday Cinema program supported by Garanti Mortgage, this screening is organized in cooperation with the British Council. Program is free. Reservations are not accepted.
