Welcome to Sodom (2018)
Director: Florian Weigensamer and Christian Krönes
90 minutes
English and various African dialects; Turkish and English subtitles

Agbogbloshie in Accra, the center of Ghana’s capital city, is the largest electronic waste dump in the world. Known as “Sodom” by the almost 6000 women, men and children that live and work here, every year about 250.000 tons of sorted-out computers, smartphones, air-condition tanks and other devices from a distant electrified and digitalized world end up here; and their placement is entirely illegal.

Cleverly interwoven in this stark and often overwhelming documentary film, the fate of various protagonists unravel the complex story of an apocalyptic society. Their very personal inner voices allow a deep insight into life and work at this landscape - and of Sodom itself. It offers the assurance and realization that what is witnessed will most probably be the final destination of the smartphone or the computer you buy today.
