Ruben Arevshatyan is an artist, art critic and independent curator born in Yerevan, Armenia in 1965. Graduating from the Yerevan Fine Arts and Theatrical Institute’s Department of Sculpture, he now teaches art history at the Armenian Open University. From 1997-2004, he was the artistic director of Hay-Art Cultural Center, Yerevan. Author of numerous critical texts in local and international magazines and publications, Arevshatyan’s critical articles concern the current problems of Armenian contemporary art, architecture, art theory and art education. He is a member of the editorial board of Red-Thread e-journal; curator and associate of local and international projects including Great Atrophy, Parallel Reality, Three Tendencies, Adieu Parajanov, Local Modernities and Manuals: Subjects of New Universality (Armenian National Pavilion, 54th Venice Biennale); and co-author and co-curator of “The Sweet 60s” international research project. He lives and works in Yerevan.
