SALT Interpretation invites high school teachers to its 2nd Educator Open House, Wednesday, February 22, 16.00 at SALT Galata. Designed to provide information about programming for high school groups at the institution’s two locations, SALT Beyoğlu and SALT Galata, Educator Open Houses are also an opportunity to get valuable feedback from educators and exchange ideas about potential partnerships and collaborative projects. Teachers will join SALT staff for a tour of SALT Galata’s current exhibitions, Scramble for the Past: A Story of Archaeology in the Ottoman Empire, 1753-1914 and It was a time of conversation, followed by a question and answer session around how teachers and students can get involved in the program.

On January 18, 2012, SALT Interpretation signed a protocol with the İstanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education (İl MEM). This new collaboration means that cultural programming for the city’s high school students will continue to grow at both SALT Beyoğlu and SALT Galata. SALT Interpretation is free, and engages young people through exhibition tours, moving image programs and artist-led collaborative projects. SALT also creates online curriculum guides (Interpretation Packs) for teachers, which feature discussion topics, activities and educational resources to accompany each exhibition. The mission of SALT Interpretation is to ensure that all students have access to forums for creative and experiential learning, open dialogue and critical thinking.

SALT is a cultural institution that explores critical and timely issues in visual and material culture, and cultivates innovative programs for research and experimental thinking. Assuming an open attitude and establishing itself as a site of learning and debate, SALT aims to challenge, excite and provoke its visitors by encouraging them to offer critique and response. SALT hosts exhibitions, conferences and public programs; engages in interdisciplinary research projects; and maintains a library and archive of recent art, architecture, design, urbanism, and social and economic histories to make them available for research and public use.
