October 31, 2013 19.00 – 22.00

This month’s Long Thursday at SALT Beyoğlu includes a guided tour of A Promised Exhibition at 19.00 (Turkish and English), and at 20.00 a screening of the film Asılacak Kadın (1986), directed by Başar Sabuncu and art-directed by Gülsün Karamustafa. The film, which is an adaption of a novel of the same title by Pınar Kür, is based on a real event and tells the story of a young wife who is forced to have sex with other men by her husband.

A guided tour of the exhibition One, No One and One Hundred Thousand at SALT Galata will start at 19.00 (Turkish and English). Elio Montanari’s first major solo exhibition includes sequences of photographs that expose the concentration and passion of individual artists as they work, including well-known practitioners such as Marina Abramović, Matthew Barney and James Lee Byars among many others.

At SALT Ulus there will be guided tours of Modern Essays 5: Graft at 19.00 (Turkish) and at 19.30 (English) as well as a screening of the documentary film Damocracy (2012) directed by Todd Southgate at 20.00. The film focuses on how two controversial dam projects – Belo Monte in Brazil and Ilısu in Turkey – impact on the Xingu and Dicle rivers and the local communities, cultures and wildlife that exist on them.

In addition, visitors can enjoy special discounts at the café in SALT Galata and at the bookstores in SALT Beyoğlu and SALT Galata. At SALT Galata, The Ottoman Bank Museum, which reinterprets the world of the late Ottoman era and the early Republic period, and SALT Research, with its comprehensive library and archives, also remain open on Long Thursdays.
