This gritty tale set in the red light district in Bombay chronicles the day-to-day life of street children, drug-pushers, pimps and prostitutes. It follows the life of young Krishna who has come to the big city to earn Rs. 500 and is nurturing the dream of someday returning to his mother.

Salaam Bombay! [Greetings Bombay!] was awarded the Cannes Film Festival “Golden Camera” (1988) award for director Mira Nair, the “Silver Lotus Award” (1989) at India’s National Film Awards, and was nominated for an Academy Award for “Best Foreign Language Film” (1989).
