Salt Beyoğlu

Salt’s six-floor building located on Istiklal Street in Beyoğlu was built in the second half of the 19th century under the name Siniossoglou Apartment. At the time, the ground floor functioned as a retail space while the upper floors were used as residences. Starting from the 1950s, the building lost its residential function due to a population decline in the Beyoğlu district and began hosting commercial, political and artistic activities. After serving as Ottoman Bank Archive and Research Centre between 1997-2000 and Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center between 2001-2010, the building was repurposed as Salt Beyoğlu in 2011.

What Salt Beyoğlu Offers

Salt Beyoğlu’s entrance is on Istiklal Street. The Forum on the ground floor as well as the second and third floors are used for exhibitions while the Walk-in Cinema hosts talks, screenings, workshops, and performances.

The Kitchen on the mezzanine and the Winter Garden on the fourth floor are reserved for collaborative programs focusing on food and ecology. Located on the first floor, Robinson Crusoe 389 bookstore is open during Salt’s visiting hours.
