Mediterranean Talks is a series of presentations and discussions aiming to foster collective thinking on the geographical region we inhabit and highlight its inspiring aspects, such as its nature, cultural landscapes, settlements, modes of production, and ways of life. Programmed by Burcu Kütükçüoğlu from the Faculty of Architecture at Istanbul Bilgi University in parallel with her teaching and research on the Mediterranean, the series explores a wide array of themes ranging from geographical aspects to specific objects, covering all elements that define Mediterranean culture. The talks, led by academics, researchers, and experts, primarily focus on the historical period spanning from the early 19th century to the present. Informed by the resources available at Salt Research, the program also questions the meanings that Mediterranean geography and culture have acquired in the modern world and the relationships and definitions they produce.
First organized in 2015, the free-admission program is relaunching in 2025 and is open to everyone.
