To mark the opening of A Century of Centuries at SALT Ulus artist Dilek Winchester will converse with Murat Cankara in the space of the exhibition at 19.00. In relation to Winchester’s ongoing series of works titled On Reading and Writing, a selection of which can be viewed in the exhibition, Winchester and Cankara will discuss the history and legacy of Armeno-Turkish publications, their place within the literary canon and the question of alphabets.

On Reading and Writing (2007-2015) delves into issues of national identity and ideology in relation to language. Winchester excavates rare or marginalized texts of Karamanlidika and Armeno-Turkish literature, that have suffered exclusion by both the Turkish literary canon and other nationally applied cultures.

The talk will be held in Turkish.

Murat Cankara received his Ph.D. in Turkish literature from Bilkent University in 2011, with a dissertation titled “Empire and Novel: Placing Armeno-Turkish Novels in Ottoman/Turkish Literary Historiography.” He is currently a faculty member at Social Sciences University of Ankara.
