This documentary is an invitation to revisit a Paris that, even today, arouses nostalgia and fascination. It discovers the French capital at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, when the city hosts the great light Exposition Universelle of 1900 and where hatches one of the most remarkable movements in the history of art: Art Nouveau.
The turn of the century exhibition was the iconic exposition in which the focus had shifted from producer to consumer. With escalators and moving sidewalks, it was an electrified public event of the greatest scale to that day. The 1900 Paris international fair also hosted the second Olympics, representing a short lived pairing in the histories of world expos and summer games.
Part of the Thursday Cinema program supported by Garanti Mortgage, this screening is organized in cooperation with the Institut français de Turquie à Istanbul. Program is free. Reservations are not accepted.
