300 Issues / 27 Years
/ 1 Magazine / Arredamento (Dekorasyon+Mimarlık)
Salt Galata
January 26 – March 12, 2017
SALT Galata, Floor 3
One of the longest living design and architecture magazines in Turkey, the 27-year life of Arredamento is visualized as an exhibition at SALT Galata. Installed in the Open Archive on the third floor, the exhibition brings together 300 issues of the magazine. Originally published as a popular design journal, over time Arredamento transformed itself into an architectural magazine with a theoretical slant, and managed to subsist without sponsorship or institutional support.
A total of 999 people contributed to these 300 issues of the magazine by providing written and visual content. Presenting each cover along with compelling features from each issue, the exhibition also sheds light on both the transformation of Arredamento and the historical context of its 27-year journey.
The exhibition consists of a set of data visualizations accompanied by a video interview between the magazine’s editor Uğur Tanyeli and its publisher Bülent Özükan.
In parallel to the exhibition, a panel on architectural publications will be held on February 4. Thereafter, Bülent Erkmen will give a talk on February 25 about his story of designing each cover of the publication. Both programs will take place at 15.00 at SALT Galata and are open to all.
Curated by Uğur Tanyeli with the curatorial assistance of Canan Erten, the exhibition is designed by Bülent Erkmen with design implementation by Yeşim Bakırküre (Ypsilon). Data visualizations are realized by Can Sucuoğlu (iyi ofis), Bilge Kobaş (Super Eight) and Canan Erten, and designed by Kerem Yaman (BEK).
