Located on -1 floor at SALT Galata, SALT Research’s new space will accommodate 40 seats and additional shelf capacity of 10,000 publications. Researchers will have access cards and be able to reserve study zones.

The new space was commissioned to ŞANALarc, who received the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continental Europe Interior Design Award for the main space of SALT Research.

Researchers will apply online at saltresearch.org. Upon approval, they will be provided with an access card to have the privileges to use the new space free of charge throughout 2017. Access will be non-transferable.

SALT Research
Opened in 2011, SALT Research functions in line with “Library 2.0” standards to respond to user demands and expectations. Collections of SALT Research focus on post-1950 visual practices, built environment, design, social life, and economic history.

In the last six years, SALT Research collection has expanded from 80,000 to 100,000 publications. While SALT Research hosted 20,000 users in 2012, attendance has grown significantly to over 47,000 users in 2016. Opening hours were extended in 2014, and SALT Research has operated six days a week since the end of 2015.

SALT believes that libraries should be more than silent and secluded spaces. The institution is committed to fostering an environment for learning, discussion, and production, where users can research, spend time around books, explore, and work with their colleagues.
