Walk-in Cinema
Ménilmontant (1926)
Director: Dimitri Kirsanoff
Silent film, 38 minutes
Ménilmontant is about two sisters, whose parents brutally murdered, moving to the Parisian neighboorhood of the same name, and eventually pursue the same romance. The story follows on as these young women part ways. Unlike the other films in the silent era, Ménilmontant doesn’t contain intertitles, and uniquely combines French avant-garde filmmaking and Soviet montage editing.
Egemen Kırkağaç, Ege Tülek, and Alper Yıldırım’s live music performance, a combination of acoustic elements and electronic sounds, will pair the screening.
Organized in collaboration between SALT and Fol, the program Sounds of Cinema is free and open to all. The film is shown as the original data provided by the distributor.
