Winner of the World Cinema Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, this noir thriller follows Noredin Mostafa (Fares Fares), a troubled Cairo detective who owes his position to his uncle, the police chief himself. Days before the beginning of the 2011 Egyptian revolution, he is assigned to investigate the murder of local singer Lalena at the luxurious Nile Hilton Hotel. When all the evidence indicates that a well-known businessman with tight government connections is behind her death, Noredin is offered money in exchange for dropping the case. Refusing to be silenced and determined this time to act on his duty, he submerges into his most difficult assignment yet.
