Salt Beyoğlu
December 19, 2018 17.00 – 20.00
Walk-in Cinema
Image Diplomacy (2017)
Director: Vladislav Shapovalov
29 minutes
English; Turkish subtitles
Set in the archive of Association Italy Russia, the Film Archive in Bologna, and Clervaux Castle in Luxembourg, the film will be screened in parallel to the artist Vladislav Shapovalov’s current exhibition at AVTO. Image Diplomacy documents the battle waged between two ideological blocs in the field of “exhibition diplomacy,” and gives an insight into the unwritten history of Soviet soft power and socialist internationalism. It compares the forgotten archival materials of the Soviet photography exhibitions and film screenings organized in Europe with the 1955 photography exhibition The Family of Man in New York, whose physical collection was added to UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register and is now on display at Clervaux Castle.
The looped screening from 17.00-20.00 is open to all and free.
