This month’s Long Thursday will include the screening of Richard Linklater’s cult independent film Slacker (1990) and an audio-visual performance by Istanbul Soundscape Project, reinterpreting the sounds of the city. The programs taking place in the Walk-in Cinema at SALT Beyoğlu are free and open to all.

Naeem Mohaiemen’s exhibition Prisoners of Correct History and Robinson Crusoe 389 Bookstore at SALT Beyoğlu, as well as the SALT Galata exhibition Mihri: A Migrant Painter of Modern Times will be open until 22.00.

A single day with mostly under-30 over-educated, unemployed, talkative, nonparticipant bohemians, social outcasts and misfits in Austin, Texas… Characters, such as a UFO buff insisting the U.S. has been on the moon since the 1950s and an anarchist befriending a man trying to rob his house, talk freely on various themes like city life, social classes, exclusion, unemployment, and media. Where do the sounds of Istanbul come from? How to bring a different perspective to the auditory journey of the inhabitants of Istanbul? Approaching everyday city life from an auditory perspective, Istanbul Soundscape Project (ISP) aims to raise awareness of the city’s acoustic ecology.

The audio-visual ISP performance in the Walk-in Cinema will bring together new works by , Alp Tuğan, Sinan Kestelli, Gökhan Deneç, Erdem Helvacıoğlu, Serdar Kökçeoğlu, Özcan Ertek and MIAM Sound Collective, revealing the rapidly changing acoustic atmosphere of Istanbul.




In accordance with Article 7 of Law No. 5224 amended on 18.01.2019,
films that have not been assessed and classified by the General Directorate of Cinema, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Republic of Turkey, can only be screened under the classification of 18+ at festivals, special screenings or similar culture and arts events.
