Screening: Constant Changes, Silent Witnesses
Salt Beyoğlu
November 20, 2019 19.00
“Constant Changes, Silent Witnesses is a story of drifting through Istanbul. It observes changes in the city, the disappearance of old buildings and green spots, the displacement of people – yet also their resistance. However, the actual witnesses of these transitions are the trees, some of which are 700 years old, seemingly silent spectators of what is unfolding. Through my dance, I connect spaces where these processes juxtaposed and become apparent.”
A choreographer and dancer based in Berlin, Jasmin İhraç received two artist-in-residence scholarships for Istanbul from Kunststiftung NRW (Atelier Galata) and Kulturakademie Tarabya in 2018. Her performative film Constant Changes, Silent Witnesses (2019), which she developed during her time in the city, will be presented for the first time at SALT Beyoğlu. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with İhraç on the work around her Istanbul impressions.
Programmed in collaboration with Kulturakademie Tarabya and Goethe-Institut İstanbul, the 17-minute-long screening of Constant Changes, Silent Witnesses (in Turkish with English subtitles), and the Q&A (in Turkish) are open to all.
Jasmin İhraç studied Contemporary Dance, Context and Choreography at Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum Tanz Berlin after having received her degree in Sociology from Freie Universität Berlin. Her solo and group pieces have been shown in Berlin, Istanbul, St. Petersburg, and Paris. The performance Sahman-Grenze-Kuş was presented in 2017 and 2018 in Dusseldorf, Athens, Marseille, Ankara, Berlin, Istanbul, and Marrakesh. She worked with Isabelle Schad (Collective Jumps), Alexandra Pirici (Fluids, Signals, Aggregate) and Taldans (Dokuman).
