Marking the 10th year of SALT and its identity program, the fifteenth edition of Kraliçe is designed by Cem Eskinazi.

Kraliçe Sohbet is inspired by SALT Research Collections compiling of 1,860,000 documents under the titles of “Art,” “Architecture and Design,” “City, Society, and Economy,” as well as SALT’s multilayered programs, to reflect on the collaborative practice and open conversations initiated by the institution since 2011. It draws on archival visuals to revive and represent the letters and numerals; and uses open type to switch between three sets of characters, so that consecutive forms are never repeated, to provide a sense of “equal distribution of variety” across words and phrases.

Kraliçe is a typographic system developed by Project Projects (today Wkshps) that explores the transformation of nonmaterial goods through networks. Originally created as the identity program for SALT, Kraliçe is an open system that allows for accrued meaning over time. The institutional mark is distributed throughout the typeface as the four letters S-A-L-T. New designers are invited to reinterpret these four characters on an ongoing basis, thereby reframing the institution’s identity.

Kraliçe is based on the typeface Queen (2004) by Timo Gaessner, 123buero.
