Hidden in one of Berlin’s backyards, Germany’s most unusual high school has no headmaster, no hierarchy, and no pressure. This ambitious school is entirely organized by its students without any outside funding. The students pay their own teachers and decide what they want to learn. In the film, we follow the stories of Alex, Lena, Mimy and Hanil, who come from different state schools across the country and have one thing in common: they failed. Now they experience a completely new way of learning and want to take their chances. They have two years to prepare for the final official test held by the government. Due to the absence of the typical enemies, the students have to learn to discipline themselves while motivating and supporting one another.

Directed by Alexander Kleider, Berlin Rebel High School (2016) is a documentary film about the true meaning of learning, a tribute to curiosity, the joy of life, and change. The film received the Audience Award at the Austin Film Festival in 2016 where it premiered.
