Salt Research, Mine Art Gallery Archive
Mine Art Gallery Archive has been incorporated into the Salt Research Art Archive and is now accessible online. The collection brings together written, visual, and audio materials related to the exhibitions and events organized by the gallery from its founding in 1985 through 2000.

Mine Art Gallery began its activities in the 1980s in Kadıköy, on the upper floor of Melodi Müzikevi, a music store that served as a meeting place for artists such as Adnan Çoker, Şenol Yorozlu, Serhat Kiraz, Meriç Hızal, Can Maden, and Berna Erkün. Officially founded in 1985 by Mine Gülener, the gallery operated in various venues in Kadıköy, as well as in Nişantaşı and Bodrum. Unlike most art galleries concentrated on Istanbul’s European side, Mine Art Gallery deliberately positioned itself on the Anatolian side. The initial steps toward the gallery’s foundation were shaped through exchanges with a group of artists—including Adnan Çoker, Mustafa Ata, Zekai Ormancı, Serhat Kiraz, Nur Koçak, and Yusuf Taktak—with the aim of contributing to the development of artistic activities in the area. In addition to solo and group shows, the gallery has organized more than 25 annual summer exhibitions and participated in various art fairs since 1985. Through workshops and accompanying public programs, it encouraged broader discussion around the issues addressed in these exhibitions, contributing to the art scene in Turkey.

Mine Art Gallery is still active in Istanbul and Bodrum. The gallery’s archive at archives.saltresearch.org offers insight into the art environment of the period between 1985 and 2000. The collection also complements the Salt Research archives of artists who participated in the gallery’s exhibitions and events, including Yusuf Taktak, Tomur Atagök, Serhat Kiraz, Nur Koçak, and Mustafa Altıntaş.
