Leman Sevda Darıcıoğlu’s performance titled Angelus Altera is taking place as part of The 90s Onstage, which explores aspects of the stage and performance in Turkey’s 1990s culture scene.
Taking its inspiration from archival materials related to Turkey’s performance art scene in the 1990s, Angelus Altera addresses the relationality between notions of heritage and the future. To understand the ever-changing borders and boundaries of the decade, the artist first looks into the 80s and draws analogies between Turkey’s socio-politics, queer history, and performance art history. From a queer perspective, the performance investigates the hegemonic history, past and present, focusing on the concepts of visibility & invisibility, (op)pressure & ease, (en)closure & opening/coming out through the body, and opens itself into the future.
Realized in collaboration with Performistanbul and with the support of monoco.io, the performance will take place on Sunday, September 18 between 11.00-18.00 at Salt Beyoğlu on floors - 1 and 1. This free-admission program is open to everyone.

Leman Sevda Darıcıoğlu, is a Berlin and İstanbul-based artist working primarily in the field of performance art. Darıcıoğlu produces long-durational live performances as well as videos, installations, and public interventions. In her* performances, she* investigates the physical/emotional limits, boundaries, and potentials of the body. As of 2022, Darıcıoğlu continues her* master’s in Live Art Forms at Akademie der Bildenden Künste Nürnberg and gives lectures in Art in Context program at the Universität der Künste, Berlin (UdK). Since 2017, she* is represented by the international performance art platform Performistanbul.
*As an artist who disagrees with the binary gender system, Leman Sevda Darıcıoğlu uses “she/her” as a strikethrough with an asterisk in writings and takes “they/them” in verbal language.
The 90s Onstage is organized as part of L’Internationale’s Our Many Europes program.
