Thursday Cinema
"What is normal, anyway?"
Salt Beyoğlu, Online
November 3 – December 1, 2022
Thursday Cinema’s 2022 fall program What is normal, anyway? begins on November 3. Comprising five fiction and semi-fiction films, the selection explores the notion of normality in a post-pandemic world.
The program reflects upon shared concerns of our current time, while accentuating emerging possibilities of the ways we relate to the world. The featured films combine different genres and focus on alternative “realities” produced by dreams, emotions, stories or the mind: We follow the trail of Laika, a stray dog who was the first living being to be sent into space and returned to the streets of Moscow as a ghost; an enigmatic deer that appears to be the king of the Laurentian forest in the French-Canadian province of Québec; and a mystery-man at the head of a clandestine revolutionary organization in Montreal, whose upcoming mission is to hijack the city’s radio waves. These modern tales from around the world weave unlikely connections, where reality merges into fantasy.
The first screening of the fall program, Archipel [Archipelago], will take place on Thursday, November 3 at 19.00 in Salt Beyoğlu’s Walk-in Cinema. Captured in a composition of creative animation and a partly documentary style, the film expands into a semi-fictional odyssey set in filmmaker Félix Dufour-Laperrière’s native province, Québec.
This free-admission program will take place between November 3 and December 1; every Thursday at 19.00 each film will be screened in Salt Beyoğlu’s Walk-in Cinema and from Friday until Sunday midnight every week, each film will be streamed via saltonline.org. All films included in the program will be streamed in their original language with Turkish subtitles, and can only be accessed online by audiences in Turkey.
