River (2021)
Director: Jennifer Peedom and Joseph Nizeti
75 minutes
English; Turkish subtitles

Throughout history, rivers have shaped our landscapes and our journeys, flowing through our cultures and dreams. River is a cinematic and musical odyssey that explores the remarkable relationship between humans and rivers. Spanning six continents, and drawing on extraordinary contemporary cinematography, including satellite filming, the film shows rivers on scales and from perspectives never seen before. Directed by Jennifer Peedom and Joseph Nizeti, and written by Robert Macfarlane with music composed by the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s (ACO) Richard Tognetti, the documentary also features music by Jonny Greenwood and Radiohead and narration by Willem Dafoe.

The film’s union of image, music and sparse, poetic script creates a dream-like narrative, honoring the wildness of rivers but also recognizing their vulnerability, and reflects on how rivers have shaped the planet’s elaborate landscapes and human existence.

Following the Walk-in Cinema screening on Sunday, December 11 at 16.00, the film will be streamed online between December 26-30 via saltonline.org.

Salt’s Is this our last chance? program is supported by its founder Garanti BBVA, and is open to everyone. The films will be streamed in their original language with Turkish subtitles, and can only be accessed online by audiences in Turkey.

In accordance with Article 7 of Law No. 5224 amended on 18.01.2019, films that have not been assessed and classified by the General Directorate of Cinema, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Republic of Turkey, can only be screened under the classification of 18+ at festivals, special screenings or similar culture and arts events.
