Walk-in Cinema
In this concert, Amy Salsgiver, Fulya Uçanok, and Saadet Türköz will explore a series of sonic-meditations on the lives of everyday objects. Focusing on the relationship between sound and environment, and employing a range of traditional and non-traditional instruments, the trio’s Walk-in Cinema performance will traverse sonic habitats that engage with the livelihood of diverse agents, human and non-human.
This free-admission program is open to all.
Amy Salsgiver is a percussionist, composer, and educator. She is an active performer in classical and contemporary music, performing with Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, Hezarfen Ensemble, sa.ne.na percussion group, and as a free-improviser. Salsgiver is a faculty member at Istanbul Technical University Centre for Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM), where she teaches percussion, chamber music, improvisation, and composition. She holds degrees from Manhattan School of Music, Royal College of Music, and ITU MIAM, and is currently working towards her PhD that explores the interstices of composition, improvisation, and ecological networks.
Fulya Uçanok is an electroacoustic musician, pianist, and improviser. She studied classical music piano performance at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory, and completed her master’s degree at ITU MIAM. She received her doctoral degree from the Sonic Arts Department at the same university with her dissertation titled “Towards a Response-able Com-position Practice: Entangling with Humans, More-than-humans and Materials.” Her current interests include electroacoustic music aesthetics, response-able sounding practices with humans, more-than-humans, and materials, and practices with musical instruments as material agents (human-instrument collaborations).
Saadet Türköz is a vocal and performance artist. Her initial recordings were influenced by the folk music of her native land, East Turkestan. Over time, her repertoire has expanded to encompass improvised music and contemporary renditions of Turkish and Kazakh music. In addition to her solo performances, Türköz actively participates in duos, trios, and larger free-improvising ensembles. Throughout her career, she has collaborated on numerous video, theater, film, dance, and literary projects.
