Fauna (2023)
Director: Pau Faus
74 minutes
Spanish, Catalan; Turkish subtitles

In a forest on the outskirts of Barcelona, an elderly shepherd and his flock live next to a high-tech laboratory for animal experiments. Suffering from a bone disease, the shepherd fears for the future of his livelihood as he witnesses the disappearance of the ancestral profession of shepherding. Meanwhile, scientists are busier than ever researching the COVID-19 vaccine.

Directed by Pau Faus, this documentary film explores the dichotomy between a laboratory’s hyper-sanitized, highly organized world and a shepherd’s relational practice with animals and nature. Questioning the complex dilemma of the legitimacy of sacrificing animals to save human lives, Fauna is a fable about the connection between humans, animals, and science in post-pandemic times.

Following the Walk-in Cinema screening on Thursday, March 14 at 19.00, the film will be streamed online between March 15-17 via saltonline.org.

Salt’s Is this our last chance? program is supported by its founder Garanti BBVA, and is open to everyone. The films will be streamed in their original language with Turkish subtitles, and can only be accessed online by audiences in Turkey.
