Workshop IV

Using diverse materials and media, Erdem Taşdelen constructs semi-fictional narratives that incorporate unique historical figures, events, and texts to implicate contemporary sociopolitical realities. As a series of open-ended propositions, his projects take up themes that mine the complexities of collective memory, power structures, and speculative futures. At the core of his artistic practice lies an exploration of how narrative interacts with its form and how different forms “stage” narratives.

In this Who’s in town? talk, Taşdelen will address some of his recent projects, including I Am Manifest Proof of Deviation (2018), A Minaret for the General’s Wife (2021), and Frictions (2024).

The talk will be held in Turkish and is open to everyone.

Erdem Taşdelen is a Turkish-Canadian artist living and working in Tkaronto/Toronto. His work has been shown in numerous exhibitions at Southern Alberta Art Gallery, Lethbridge; The Power Plant and Aga Khan Museum, Toronto; BüroSarıgedik, Istanbul; Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver; Bonington Gallery, Nottingham; Pera Museum, Istanbul; Framer Framed, Amsterdam; and Museum für Neue Kunst, Freiburg, among others.
