Initiated by Eda Er and Aslı Kobaner of klank.ist, the work-in-progress (wip) project returns after a long break. Interested in what a “completed” sound work indicates and how it can be re-interpreted by the recipients, the duo explores ever-evolving sound experiences through collaborative methods such as semi-planned improvisation and open form.
The duo’s first public appearance after the pandemic, Parting, will be a site-specific performance at Salt Galata. The performance foregrounds the evolving genres within contemporary music and the novel expressions that emerge at the intersection of various disciplines.
Aslı Kobaner is a composer-improviser and sound artist. She has released several albums with klank.ist and experimental hardcore/punk/metal bands, and worked on short movie soundtracks, commissions for contemporary ensembles, video games, and multimedia. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in Music Composition at the Istanbul Technical University Centre for Advanced Studies in Music (ITU MIAM).
Eda Er is a composer, sound artist, and singer based in San Francisco. Her creations encompass contemporary classical composition, voice art, music theatre, and electronic music, combining elements of theatricality and intimacy. Currently, she is a PhD candidate in Music Composition with a designated emphasis on New Media at the University of California, Berkeley.
