Mu-Ming Tsai’s documentary Hanzi explores the relationship between design and cultural identity through the adaptation of different alphabets to the digital world. Highlighting the growing interest in typography and the art of writing, particularly in Asia, the film raises questions such as “How does language shape identity?” and “What is the role of handwriting in the digital age?” It also features interviews with ShaoLan Hsueh, creator of Chineasy in London; Akira Kobayashi, a renowned font designer from Japan; Sammy Or, a prominent font designer from China; and Ri Xing Type Foundry, the last traditional Chinese type foundry in the world.
The film will be screened in its original language with Turkish subtitles.
