Making Faces: Metal Type in the 21st Century (2011)
Director: Richard Kegler
45 minutes, USA
English; Turkish subtitles
In this film, American typographer Richard Kegler presents a portrait of Canadian graphic designer Jim Rimmer (1934-2010), focusing on his type design and letter casting work using both digital and analog techniques.
Rimmer’s 2008 work at P22 Type Foundry, a type design and letterpress workshop co-founded by Kegler, forms the central axis of the film. Here, Rimmer simultaneously produces the first typeface designed in metal casting and digital media. Making Faces: Metal Type in the 21st Century offers a unique look at modern typography through Rimmer’s practice, which synthesizes the evolution of design and printing techniques over the past century.
The film will be screened in its original language with Turkish subtitles.
