Playing Men follows men across the Mediterranean as they play games, wrestle, and compete with each other to assert power or simply to kill time. During filming, director Matjaž Ivanišin begins to question the rules of these games, often infused with violence, and their role in the regional making of homo politicus. The film then turns into an exploration of how narratives of historical defeats and victories are constantly reconstructed through archaic displays of power.
The film will be screened in its original language with English and Turkish subtitles, followed by a talk by writer, translator, publisher, and editor Tanıl Bora.
