In Our Water (1982)
Director: Meg Switzgable
60 minutes
English; Turkish subtitles
In the 1980s, Frank and Rita Kaler, residents of South Brunswick, New Jersey, discovered that their well water was contaminated by toxins from a nearby landfill. Despite alarming signs—such as vegetables turning black when cooked and clothes changing color after washing—local and state officials insisted the water was safe. Frustrated by bureaucratic inaction, the Kaler family took their fight to Congress to expose the dangers of chemical waste contamination.
In Our Water documents the Kaler family’s struggle against government indifference in the 1980s. The film not only highlights their battle but also serves as a broader indictment of environmental negligence and the systemic failure to protect communities from industrial pollution.
Salt’s Is this our last chance? program is supported by its founder, Garanti BBVA, and is open to everyone.
