My Garden of a Thousand Bees (2021)
Director: David Allen
53 minutes
English; Turkish subtitles

Filmed during the COVID-19 lockdown, My Garden of a Thousand Bees follows wildlife filmmaker Martin Dohrn as he turns his small urban garden in Bristol into a field laboratory. With lenses he crafted at home, Dohrn sets out to document the diverse bee species living just outside his door. Over months of filming, he records more than 60 species—from large bumblebees to bees smaller than a mosquito—revealing their unique behaviors and social structures.

The film portrays bees not as a single group but as individuals, each with distinct traits and routines. Through attentive observation, it captures rare and intimate scenes: bees laying eggs, fighting over mates, defending nests, and building shelters from shells and sticks. Offering a close look at a hidden world, the film invites viewers to reconsider how life unfolds just beyond the edges of our attention.

Free-admission screening is open to everyone.

In accordance with Article 7 of Law No. 5224 amended on 18.01.2019, films that have not been assessed and classified by the General Directorate of Cinema, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Republic of Turkey, can only be screened under the classification of 18+ at festivals, special screenings or similar culture and arts events.
