Bab el-Hadid [Cairo Station] (1958)
Director: Youssef Chahine
76 minutes
Arabic; English subtitles

Portrayed by director Youssef Chahine himself, Qinawi is an impoverished newspaper vendor working at Cairo’s central station. He becomes infatuated with the free-spirited Hannuma, who skirts the authorities to sell soft drinks to passengers. Gradually, this turbulent love story intertwines with the station’s chaotic atmosphere.

Blending film noir and neorealism, Bab el-Hadid [Cairo Station] presents a provocative narrative that reflects on the new political order in post-revolution Egypt.

The film will be screened in its original language with English subtitles.

In accordance with Article 7 of Law No. 5224 amended on 18.01.2019, films that have not been assessed and classified by the General Directorate of Cinema, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Republic of Turkey, can only be screened under the classification of 18+ at festivals, special screenings or similar culture and arts events.
