Architect Ayla Karacabey’s (1935-2012) archive is now accessible at archives.saltresearch.org.
Digitized and cataloged as part of the Architecture Archive at Salt Research, the collection features travel photographs taken by Karacabey. Documenting her travels to the United States, France, Italy, Türkiye, and several countries in Asia from the 1950s to the 1980s, these photographs reveal Karacabey’s interest in the architectural production of the time and her approach to architectural observation.
About Ayla Karacabey
Ayla Karacabey was born in Bursa in 1935. After graduating from the American College for Girls in Istanbul in 1954, she studied at Vassar College and Harvard University, earning a master’s degree in architecture and urban design. Karacabey began her career at Marcel Breuer’s architectural office and later worked at Edward L. Barnes Associates. In 1968, she established her own architectural practice. Upon returning to Türkiye, she served as a faculty member at Yeditepe University from 2005 until her passing in 2012.

About Ayla Karacabey
