In the Tapestry Studio, whenever an idea or a question arose, artist and academic Gülçin Aksoy would invite students to form a “circle” as a way of working together. The making of a colorful pom-pom—produced collaboratively by the 2004-2005 studio students—also began with a question to which the answer was unknown: “Can we make a giant pom-pom?”
Inspired by this project, the exhibition We’ve Been at the Tapestry Studio Since the 90s invites participants to create a new giant pom-pom. As the production of the pom-pom continues on the second floor of Salt Beyoğlu, “Gatherings Around Yarn” will draw from the studio’s practice of collective making. During these gatherings, participants will wind yarns of different colors together to form balls of yarn. The process will unfold through shared rhythm and conversation, just as it did in the Tapestry Studio. The outcome will contribute to the final work presented as part of the exhibition.
The gatherings will take place every Thursday from 15.00 to 19.00 throughout November and December. The free-admission program is open to everyone. Materials will be provided by Salt.
