Forms of Care explores the ways in which architecture, aging, and care shape one another across physical, social, and emotional terrains. Moving between domestic interiors, hospitals, retirement homes, and urban infrastructures, the selection considers how both bodies and buildings age and transform under the pressures of the outside world, and how maintenance and care emerge as languages of resilience.

The Bubble takes viewers into The Villages, Florida’s vast retirement utopia, raising questions about land ownership, public access, and the politics of aging. 11’e 10 Kala [10 to 11] portrays the unlikely bond between an aging collector and a concierge whose intersecting lives in a rundown Istanbul apartment reveal how memory and belonging endure amid urban transformation. Filmed inside an experimental rehabilitation center in Basel, Rehab (from Rehab) shows how therapeutic environments are shaped not only by medical expertise but also by attention to material and spatial aspects. Where We Grow Older explores how aging populations are reshaping architectural and social structures, focusing on two housing models in Barcelona and Baltimore. She Waves at Me carefully observes elderly residents of an aging London housing estate, capturing how they adapt their homes into spaces of resilience. Set in a weathered residential building in Mexico City, Wrinkles reimagines care and maintenance as political and creative forces. Signs of Life revisits abandoned hotels in Serbia with their former employees, revealing how memory lingers in vacant spaces. Le Château [The Castle] and J’ai placé ma mère [I Lost My Mom] document the final years of the filmmaker’s mother and the challenges they face within Quebec’s elder care system, forming a moving chronicle of aging and institutional dependence.

Complementing these films, a selection of short experimental works curated in collaboration with filmmaker Yavuz Gözeller, founding director of Istanbul Experimental, extends this reflection into the material and sensory dimensions of cinema itself.

Together, the films trace how time settles into bodies, images, and buildings. Spanning various social and spatial contexts, they reflect on what it means to grow old within changing systems of care and control.

Forms of Care is programmed by Alâ Taleb from Salt. The free-admission program is open to everyone.
