The Bubble (2021)
Director: Valerie Blankenbyl
92 minutes
English; Turkish subtitles

Set in Florida’s The Villages, the largest retirement community in the US, The Bubble explores the architecture, ideology, and contradictions of a place built to offer an “ideal” life for over 150,000 senior citizens. Promising endless sunshine and leisure behind its gates, this sprawling “town” reveals what lies beneath the illusion of the American Dream and the issues of privatization, exclusion, and control.

Beyond its palm-lined streets, the film captures how the relentless expansion of The Villages disrupts surrounding residents and ecosystems—raising critical questions about land ownership, public access, and the politics of aging.

Organized as part of Forms of Care, the free-admission screening is open to everyone.

In accordance with Article 7 of Law No. 5224 amended on 18.01.2019, films that have not been assessed and classified by the General Directorate of Cinema, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Republic of Turkey, can only be screened under the classification of 18+ at festivals, special screenings or similar culture and arts events.
