Filmed in the style of a diary, J’ai placé ma mère [I Lost My Mom] follows filmmaker Denys Desjardins and his sister as they navigate the emotional and bureaucratic challenges of securing end-of-life care for their mother, who was living with advancing Alzheimer’s disease, in Quebec’s public care system.
Returning to the themes explored in Le Château [The Castle], Desjardins offers a critical look into the politics of elder care in Québec and reveals the human dimension behind institutional processes.
The film will be shown in its original language with English and Turkish subtitles. The screening will be followed by an in-person Q&A with director Denys Desjardins. The conversation will be held in English. Organized as part of Forms of Care, the free-admission program is open to everyone.
