“The responsibility of bearing witness grows heavier with each new testimony. A fine dust lingers in our minds; it never disappears throughout the documentary, even as places, subjects, and people change.”
Salt is hosting the screening of Hatay: 24 Aralık 2024-8 Ocak 2025 (2025) [Hatay: December 24, 2024-January 8, 2025], the fourth episode of director İmre Azem’s documentary series chronicling life in Hatay after the February 6 earthquakes.
İmre Azem created the first documentary in the series using footage he recorded in Hatay in April 2023, in the aftermath of the earthquakes. Since then, he has returned to Hatay three more times, continuing to document the city’s post-earthquake experience. This fourth episode, covering the transition from 2024 to 2025, captures both the joy of the new year and the emotional weight of the approaching anniversary of the earthquakes, reminding us of our growing responsibility.
Following the screening, director İmre Azem and urban planner Tuğçe Tezer will join a discussion with Öykü Atcı and Yiğit Göktuğ Torun, both featured in the documentary, along with Seher Eriş, a lawyer from Adalet Peşinde Aileleri Platformu [Platform for Families in Pursuit of Justice].
This free-admission program is open to everyone. The conversation will be held in Turkish.
