Artist Metincan Güzel will talk about his practice and recent projects as part of Salt’s Who’s in town? program.

Güzel researches the production of public spaces and shared environments as political and personal constructs. He develops spatial structures that draw from the tensions and poetics of existing environments, offering new conceptual and fictional propositions for how a space might be understood or imagined. Over the years, the artist has collaborated with shop owners, local hip-hop scenes, and diasporic communities, engaging with how their modes of inhabiting space shift during moments of crisis. His projects often take the form of fragile architectural fragments through temporary constructions and scenographic arrangements, examining how neoliberal economic policies, personal histories, and collective desires leave subtle traces on the urban environment.

The free-admission program will be held in Turkish and is open to everyone.

Metincan Güzel works and lives in the Netherlands. His work has been presented at various institutions and platforms, including Zuid Boijmans Van Beuningen, Brutus Art Space, Z33, Garage Rotterdam, MU Hybrid Art House, Miami New Media Festival, u? Festival, Wonder Festival, and Designregio Kortrijk. He recently completed a residency at the Jan van Eyck Academie, Maastricht, and will take part in a residency at Jester, Genk, in the coming year. He holds a BA in Architecture from Istanbul Bilgi University and an MA in Contextual Design from the Design Academy Eindhoven.
The program is realized with the support of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
