Walden (2018)
Director: Daniel Zimmermann
106 minutes
Walden traces the cross-border journey of a single fir tree, felled in the forest of Admont Abbey in Austria and transformed into wooden planks. Transported by train, truck, and boat, these planks travel to an unexpected destination in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest, sketching one of the world’s central raw-material trade routes.
Through a series of carefully composed sequences—each corresponding to a stage of this process—director Daniel Zimmermann offers a quiet yet incisive reflection on the paradoxes of globalized economies. Revealing the underlying logic of contemporary trade infrastructures, the film unfolds as a meditative inquiry into labor, circulation, and distance.
Following the Walk-in Cinema screening on Wednesday, February 18 at 19.00, the film will be streamed at saltonline.org between March 1–8. Online access is limited to audiences in Turkey.
