Delikado (2022)
Director: Karl Malakunas
94 minutes
English, Filipino; Turkish and English subtitles
At first glance, Palawan appears to be an idyllic tropical island, celebrated for its white beaches and lush forests and promoted as one of Asia’s most desirable tourist destinations. For a small network of environmental defenders working to protect its natural resources, however, the island resembles a battleground shaped by competing interests and escalating violence.
Delikado follows Bobby, Tata, and Nieves—three committed leaders within this network—as they risk their lives to confront politicians and businessmen threatening what has been described as the “last ecological frontier” of the Philippines. Moving between acts of collective resistance and moments of vulnerability, the film situates their struggle within a broader global context, where land defenders are increasingly under threat.
Following the Walk-in Cinema screening on Saturday, February 21 at 18.00, the film will be streamed at saltonline.org between March 1–8. Online access is limited to audiences in Turkey.
