Anyox (2022)
Directors: Ryan Ermacora, Jessica Johnson
87 minutes
English, Croatian; Turkish and English subtitles
Set in a remote former mining town in northwest British Columbia, Anyox observes the lives of the settlement’s two remaining residents amid vast slag piles left behind by early 20th-century copper smelting. These towering byproducts of industrial extraction dominate the landscape, depicting a century of environmental transformation and abandonment.
Using 35mm and 65mm film and drawing on extensive archival material, the film presents a post-industrial portrait of a place shaped by labor, immigration, and extractive economies. It reveals how industrial ambition continues to mark both the land and collective memory, long after the site has fallen silent.
Following the Walk-in Cinema screening on Saturday, February 28 at 16.00, the film will be streamed at saltonline.org between March 1–8. Online access is limited to audiences in Turkey.
