We Are Guardians (2023)
Directors: Edivan Guajajara, Chelsea Greene, Rob Grobman
85 minutes
Portuguese, Tupi, English; Turkish and English subtitles
Set in the Brazilian Amazon, We Are Guardians documents the escalating struggle over Indigenous lands threatened by illegal logging. As protected forests are rapidly destroyed for short-term profit, the film follows Indigenous forest guardian Marçal Guajajara and Indigenous leader Puyr Tembé, who risk their lives to defend their ancestral territories on the frontlines of this conflict. Juxtaposed with their resistance is the story of Valdir, an illegal logger caught in a cycle of economic precarity, revealing the complex human realities entangled in environmental devastation.
Reflecting on the fragile balance between resilience, survival, and destruction, We Are Guardians underscores a crisis whose consequences extend far beyond the Amazon.
Following the Walk-in Cinema screening on Saturday, February 28 at 18.00, the film will be streamed at saltonline.org between March 1–8. Online access is limited to audiences in Turkey.
