Blue Monet (2006)
Director: Carl Brown
54 minutes
Drawing inspiration from the paintings of Claude Monet and the filmmaker’s engagement with water as a visual and sensory motif, Blue Monet explores the expressive possibilities of color, light, and the moving image. Through a range of alchemical film techniques—including toning, liquid emulsion, reticulation, and layering—the work translates Monet’s impressions of water, sky, and water lilies onto the film surface.
Moving between figuration and abstraction, the film combines photographic representation with richly textured, hand-processed imagery. Rather than direct illustration, it unfolds through sensations of color and movement, inviting viewers into a contemplative encounter with the visible and the unseen.
Presented as part of This Porous Earth, this free-admission screening is open to everyone.
