SALT Beyoğlu, Walk-in Cinema
The Walk-in Cinema will host a new performance series titled Expeditions in Sound and Music, which intends to offer a selection of inspiring and experimental performances, exploring the vast array of artists who work with sound and music. The aim of this performance series is to create an inclusive and participatory environment for musical experiences while investigating new ideas, initiating discussions in contemporary forms of experimental music and establishing a platform for interaction over music and sound.
Curated by Undomondo, Expeditions in Sound and Music will kick off on September 22 with a performance by guitarist Daniel Bachman. An experimental and innovative artist with roots in Americana, Bachman mixes heady drones, psychedelic experimentation and other elements into his music. For fans of master instrumentalists such as James Blackshaw, Peter Lang, Jozef van Wissem and the late Jack Rose, this performance will be an exciting discovery.
The series will continue with Scottish singer and guitarist Gareth Dickson on October 17.
Daniel Bachman
Hailing from Fredericksburg, Virginia, Daniel Bachman utilizes a deft fingerpicking technique on old-time Americana-rooted steel string guitar and banjo, as well as transformative sitar-led ragas, with heady drones, psychedelic experimentation as well as the occasional heartbreaking Civil War ballad added to the mix. Continuing in the tradition of American Primitivism which saw a revival in the 60s via John Fahey’s Takoma label, Bachman released three albums on minor labels around the world the last year, which established him as both an ultra talented guitar savant as well as a prolific artist. Bachman conjures a bucolic trance with nothing but his guitar, in contrast to his contemporaries who use electronics to enhance their sounds.
All performances are free.
