SALT Galata, Workshop IV
SALT Interpretation invites high school students to participate in a series of workshops entitled “Imagine, Design, Discuss”, organized in the scope of the exhibition The Performance of Modernity: ATATÜRK KÜLTÜR MERKEZİ, 1946-1977. The series of workshops, which will be held at SALT Galata, aims to build a forum to engage high school students in creative learning and critical thinking. Focusing on the structure-material-design relationships; interaction of architecture and social culture; stage design and spatial perception in architecture, workshops will be led by Zeynep Ataş, Ali Dur, Hayrettin Günç, Emre Gündoğdu, Cem Kozar and Samim Magriso.
The workshop program, which brings together academics, designers, architecture professionals and high school students, starts with the exhibition tour led by the SALT Interpretation team. Following the exhibition tour which will examine the understanding towards public space and cultural policy in Turkey, participants will be asked to come up with their own creative projects by using different materials and techniques. All projects will be exhibited on saltonline.org.

Zeynep Ataş
Zeynep Ataş graduated from İstanbul Technical University, Faculty of Architecture in 2001. She won the first prize with her thesis at Archiprix Turkey in 2001. After completing her master’s in Architecture at Rice University, she worked at SOM, NYC as an architect. She continues her PhD studies and works as a research assistant in the Department of Architecture at İstanbul Technical University.
Ali Dur
Ali Dur is an architect, designer and researcher based in İstanbul and until recently in New York. He received his bachelor’s degree in architecture from İstanbul Technical University and continued his master’s studies at The Cooper Union with a graduate thesis in the MArch 2 Program. He is also the recipient of Archiprix 1st prize of 2008. Dur is currently teaching design studios at various institutions in İstanbul.
Hayrettin Günç
Hayrettin Günç got his bachelor’s degree in architecture from Yıldız Technical University. He continued his studies at Lizbon Technical University for another year. He is currently working on various projects and events as a coordinator and is also one of the founders of The Herkes İçin Mimarlık Association.
Emre Gündoğdu
Emre Gündoğdu received his bachelor’s degree in architecture from İstanbul Technical University. As one of the founders of the Herkes İçin Mimarlık Association, he continues to work on social architecture. He is a research assistant at Yeni Yüzyıl University, continuing his PhD studies at İstanbul Technical University.
Cem Kozar
In 2007, Cem Kozar founded PATTU Architectural Design and Research with Işıl Ünal to engage in independent research on cities and share ideas for urban spaces via architectural competitions and exhibitions. His work, Hayal-et Yapılar [Ghost Buildings] has been displayed in several venues including the Rotterdam Architecture Biennale, Antalya Architecture Biennale as well as the İstanbul Design Biennale.
Samim Magriso
Samim Magriso completed his bachelor’s degree in architecture at İstanbul Technical University. He completed part of his studies in Germany. He is one of the founders of The Herkes İçin Mimarlık Association and currently works at Salon2 Mimarlık.
